Pokemon Go Trainers are always on the hunt for Legendary Pokemons which helps them to control and change the world. Legendary Pokemons are rare, powerful and really difficult to catch. Most trainers look to trade Legendary Pokemon and include them in their Pokedex.
With the existence of more than 800 Pokemon Species, only 49 of them are Legendary Pokemon. This means about 6% of the Pokemon are Legendary who can make a strong impact on the Pokemon World. In each of the Pokemon Generation released, at least three of the Pokemons have found to be legendary.
List of Legendary Pokémon (Generation Wise)
Generation 1 included 4 Legendary Pokemon with their exploration in the Kanto Region. Three of them were Legendary Birds also called Winged Mirages. The fourth one was MewTwo which is one of the most popular Legendary Pokemon. Mewtwo evolves in Mewtwo X and Mewtwo Y after Mega evolution in generation 6.
5 more Legendary Pokemon were introduced in Generation 2 for Pokemon trainers to catch. Second Generation Pokemons were to be explored in the Johto Region and some really challenging Legendary Raids took place
Legendary Pokemon in Generation 2 are Legendary Beasts and Tower Duo. Legendary beasts included Raikou, an Electric-type, Entei, a Fire-type, and Suicune, a Water-type. This trio came into light when the Brass Tower burned due to lightning and they were revived by Ho-Oh. Tower Duo is also called Guardian of skies and Guardian of the Seas. They appear in Pokemon Gold and Silver Versions and have appeared in the anime also.
The third Generation inducted 8 Legendary Pokemons and discovered around Hoenn Region. The names of these legendaries are:
Weather Trio has been the most required combination of Legendary Pokemon. Any trainer having Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza in his Pokedex is unstoppable in any battle or raid. Rayquaza is the trio master and controls the atmosphere. Kyogre can cause rains to happen and create seas in the Hoenn Region while Groudon can stop the rain and create new lands.
Generation 4 added nine more legendary Pokemon to the Pokemon Franchise. They all were discovered and explored in the Sinnoh Region. Legendaries in the fourth generation were:
Along with these legendary Pokemon combos Heatran, Regigigas, and Cresselia also possessed Legendary Stats. Heatran is quite useful when it comes to saving the land by controlling volcanic activity. Cresselia was first discovered in full moon island and since then it resembles dreams.
Generation 5 also saw the addition of 9 Legendary Pokemon along with the random ones. All these Pokemon in fifth-generation were habitants of the Unova Region. The Pokemon that possessed Legendary stats are:
Swords of Justice
- Keldio(Mythical Pokemon)
Forces of Nature
Only three legendary Pokemon were part of the sixth generation. They were to be explored in the Kalos region. Three legendaries with powerful stats in this generation are
These three are called Aura Trio and were streamlined in Pokemon X and Y.
Generation 7 Pokemon were featured in the Alola Region and the highest number of Legendary Pokemons were introduced. Eleven really powerful legendary pokemon became part of the Pokemon Franchise.
- Tapu Koko

- Tapu Bulu

Sun and Moon Line
The eighth-generation has only got 2 new Legendary Pokemon for all the trainers until now.
Two of them are Zacian and Zamazenta and originally appeared in the Galar Region. These are the wolf based legendaries, Zacian representing Sword and Zamazenta represents shield.
How to capture Legendary Pokémon
Pokemon Legendaries can only be caught when Trainers will take part in Legendary Raids. Legendary raids are the most difficult type of Raid Battles and some serious challenge lies in there. The main difference between Legendary Raids and Random ones is that they are available for a limited time.
If trainers don’t conduct raids within that set of the period then they are not able to catch the legendaries. For eg, Zapdos from Generation 1 was Electric Flying in Summer 2017. After this time, you only have the option to trade Pokemon with other trainers.
How to unlock Legendary Raids in Pokémon Go
All the Legendary Raids get unlocked when trainers complete their Field Research in Pokemon Go. Field research is the mission and tasks assigned to the trainers when they do spinning at a Pokestop. Missions vary between finding different creatures, participating in battles and many more small types of tasks.
Each day you can avail new quest from Pokestop and unlock rewards for yourself. Quests can include catching certain Pokemon or performing the evolution of some of them. Rewards from these quests allow trainers to get Rare Candy, Pokeballs and sometimes a chance to catch a mysterious Pokemon
One quest leads to one Field Research Completion each day. Trainers need to complete seven field research to earn a Research Breakthrough. Research Breakthrough rewards trainers with a mysterious Pokemon or allows them to take part in Legendary Raids. This is how we can unlock Legendary Raids in Pokemon Go.
To conclude, trainers have to be consistently involved in Pokemon Go to be able to collect resources and complete their Field Research. There are also some Special Research Quests which unlocks Legendary like MewTwo. Keep hitting new Pokestops and other flashpoints to catch Pokemons and you might get lucky to encounter a Legendary Pokemon.
